Thanks to hundreds of contributors, we were able to quickly raise the $5,000 we needed to retain an experienced attorney and file our lawsuit in early July. Our attorney has just filed our opening brief, which we will post here shortly. The response brief from Dollar General is due shortly after Thanksgiving and we will post that when we get it. After that, we get to file a rebuttal, and then the next thing is the Court Hearing, which is scheduled for January 17, 2014.
Meanwhile, we are continuing our fundraising to cover all our legal fees and expenses:
We are having a Yard Sale & Raffle on Saturday, November 30, from 8am to 2pm. The sale will be next to Coyote Corner Gift Shop on Park Boulevard in downtown Joshua Tree. You can drop off donations to sell on Friday, November 29 from 2pm to 4 pm at the same location. Downtown businesses are joining in by offering specials in their stores and goodies for the raffle. We are taking everything from furniture to climbing and camping equipment. So please consider donating something you don’t use anymore (clean and not broken, please), or come shop and see what kind of treasure you might find. One Hundred Percent of the proceeds will go directly to the Legal Fund.
We also have an ongoing GoFundMe Campaign with lots of great rewards provided by concerned Local Joshua Tree businesses. Please click the “DONATE HERE” button to the right.
Please leave a note on our comment page, or send us an email at email@example.com if you have any questions or comments and we’ll respond as quickly as we can. This has been a pile of work so far, accomplished by all of the Joshua Tree Community, including those who live and work here, and those who visit. Thanks to all who have donated and are donating time, resources, ideas, gifts and money. Without your help, we would have a Dollar General by now.
